S&I Media Exhibition: Jorge Marçal da Silva – The Immersive Dimension
We are proud to announce the stereo photography exhibition to be visited during next S&I Media in September. ‘Jorge Marçal da Silva – The Immersive Dimension’ is an exhibition organized by the The Municipal Archive of Lisbon – Photographic and curated by Sofia Castro and Victor Gens.
Jorge Marçal da Silva (1878-1929) was a stereo photography enthusiast. He was a physician in Lisbon hospitals and a Professor at the nursing school. As an amateur, he has dedicated his leisure time to photograph his experiences and travels, mostly using a Verascope stereo camera which allowed him to explore the immersive potential of his images.
The Municipal Archive of Lisbon – Photographic presents a view over the exceptional aspects of nature and over the social activity that were part of the photographer’s life. The exhibition presents a set of images that transport us and make us explore a three-dimensional environment. The image selection conveys both the familiar context of viewing stereos in a Taxiphote, and the traditional motifs of the early 20th century, always keeping the sensory and challenging dimension of immersion.
