Notebooks, boxes and other supports

Set of wooden boxes for storing glass plates of different formats; various trademark cardboard boxes of photographic printing paper and glass plates; glacine envelopes; acetate negatives and author’s proofs.

Related to negatives – Photonegatives, organized with sequential numbering and information regarding the date and time of capture, light (atmospheric state or use of artificial light), lens used, diaphragm aperture, brand of emulsion used, image subject, exposure time, revelation (liquid and technique) and observations. The information was handwritten by the author in black or red ink (autochromes) and organized in a grid drawn in red ink.

Related to positives – Photopositives, organized with sequential numbering and information related to light (atmospheric state or use of artificial light), glass (T/B), dist.ª [focal distance?], “support” or trademark of the emulsion used , exposure time and observations. The information was handwritten by the author in black ink and organized in a grid drawn in red ink.

A notebook handwritten by the author, entitled: Notes on photography written and given by Jorge Marçal da Silva, which brings together a series of information, notes and practical indications on the practice and technique of stereoscopic photography.

 
   
   
 

Conservation and restoration intervention

Glass plates

The support is cleaned with cotton soaked in a solution of distilled water and ethanol in equal parts.

Emulsion cleaning with blowing pear.

Packaged in an envelope with 4 flaps alkaline reserve and storage box.

 
 

Wood

Removal of glues and dirt, which were found in the wood with solvent (turpentine),

The dirt and powders found in the plated drawers (lined with red paper) were removed with a brush and a solution of ethanol and distilled water.

Temporary replacement of the handle that was loose, with wax.

Purging, cleaning action performed with the application of an insecticide-type chemical solution, remaining encapsulated for a certain period of time.

 

Prints

Rehearsals for the exhibition, possibility of creating sequences with period prints by the author, in aluminum frames.
