Mariana Duarte

Mariana Duarte is a Brazilian filmmaker, Editor and Researcher based in Lisbon and currently working between Portugal, Brazil and Scotland. Her academic background is in History (Rio de Janeiro State University, Brazil) and Visual Anthropology, Media and Documentary Practices (University of Münster, Germany). After six years working as a Film and TV Editor at Globo Network, the leading Brazilian television and film production company, she graduated from the MA Kino Eyes in Film in 2020, with a full-degree Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and mobility at three European institutions: Screen Academy Scotland (UK), Baltic Film School (Estonia) and Lusofona University (Portugal). She has also worked as a Multimedia Journalist in Belgium, directing a series of video reports on social-cultural issues and the short film “Newcomers” – about the situation of asylum seekers – produced by the Centre Vidéo de Bruxelles and screened at festivals Europe and Brazil. She is currently researching on Border Aesthetics in creative documentary film, postcolonial cinema, feminist studies and forced migration.

Almir Almas

Almir Almas is General Coordinator of the LabArteMidia Research Group (Laboratory of Art, Media and Digital Technologies), of the Department of Cinema, Radio and Television (CTR), and of the Post-Graduate Programme in Media and Audiovisual Processes at the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (PPGMPA-ECA-USP), where he works as a Lecturer and researcher. He is a board member of the Brazilian Society of Television Engineering (SET), and has previously been on the editorial committee of the SET journal (2010 to 2016). Alms was Vice-Director of Film (2016-2018) at SET. He researches and develops content for IPTV at USP, in addition to being part of the Technical Advisory Group for the Implementation of IPTV USP (GAT IPTV). Alms is the Coordinator of the thematic channel Arte e Cultura of the IPTV USP System, by ECA/USP. He has founded and coordinates the Brazilian Digital Television Observatory (Obted).

Ana Isabel Soares

Ana Isabel Soares is an Assistant Professor at Universidade do Algarve and a member of the executive council of CIAC – Centre for Research in Arts and Communication at the same university. Soares took the role of PhD supervisor to Portuguese filmmaker Edgar Pêra’s thesis O Espectador Espantado (The Amazed Spectator). She has also lectured in foreign universities and was one the founders and the first President (2010-2014) of the Portuguese Association of Moving Image Researchers (AIM). Soares’ research is focused on film and mixed-media and the essays she has written have been published in both Portuguese and Brazilian journals.
